The Foundation started out with the main task of addressing the difficulties faced by people living in the area, and to improve their lives through a diverse range of religious and social programmes.   Since 1960, the village of Embilipitiya and its surrounding areas have been inhabited by groups of people from various parts of the country. Although the government had implemented some development projects under the Udawalawa and Mahaweli schemes, living conditions in the area remain sub-standard, especially in the fields of education and health.
